Alexis Belt
Alexis Belt is a visual artist who lives in Syracuse, NY. Growing up she split her time between New York and South Carolina. She graduated with a BFA in Painting and Drawing from SUNY Purchase. Her work concern food politics within marginalized communities.

Joe deVera
Joe deVera’s works are often attempts to make sense of the absurd theaters of human tragedy; exploring the possible relationships between historiography and art objects, while simultaneously investigating the cultural networks of mass conflict. Having emigrated from the Philippines with his family in order to escape a climate of crushing poverty and government oppression, then further enlisting in the Marines Corps after high school (serving two combat deployments to Iraq in support of the second Gulf War), deVera’s work also become autobiographical observations of power structures and the machines of empire.
His awards/residencies include The University of Iowa Grant Wood Fellowship (2017), the Terra American Art Foundation Summer Fellowship (2016), the Joshua Tree Highlands Art Residency (2015), The Cloud Projects Prize (2015) and The Dave Bown Projects Prize (2014). deVera’s work was also included in the 111th publication of New American Paintings (2014). Joe DeVera received his MFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Yale School of Art (2014) and his BFA in Painting from California State University, Fullerton (2011). He lives and works in Southern California.

Claudia Bucher
Claudia Bucher is a Los Angeles based multimedia visual artist whose work often combines durational performance with sculptural installations to explore ideas about the ‘extended body’. She has an MFA from Art Center College of Design and has studied at RISD and MIT’s Center for Advanced Visual Studies. She is the recipient of a ‘06 Individual Artist (COLA) Fellowship from the City of Los Angeles and recently completed a two-year teaching stint as Avnet Artist-in-Residence in Sculpture and Media at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She has exhibited with the Boston Cyber Arts Festival, The Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation, The American Textile History Museum, Carl Berg Projects, The Getty, The Armory Center for the Arts, LACE, Track 16 Gallery, L2Kontemporary and many other LA venues. In July of 2010 she attended the Kaus Australis Artist Residency in Rotterdam, Netherlands. She is currently teaching sculpture as an adjunct at UCLA.
Madeline Bartley
Madeline Bartley was born in Louisville, Kentucky and attended Murray State University where she received her B.F.A. in printmaking and drawing. She earned her M.F.A. in studio arts from Syracuse University’s College of Visual Performing Arts in 2016. A recipient of Quilting By the Lake Scholarship and the Turner Residency in Los Angeles, CA., she is featured in Notations, printresting.org, and Boxcar Press Blog: The Inquisitive Printer. She has exhibited her work in solo and group shows including exhibitions at the Hand Held Gallery (Melbourne, Australia), Walnut Ink Projects (Michigan City, IN), The Rogue Space (New York, NY), and the Museum of Latin American Art (Long Beach, CA). Currently she lives in Syracuse, New York where she works as a letterpress printer and dedicates her free time to her studio practice.

Ground Series
GROUND SERIES dance collective members Sarah Ashkin, Brittany Delany, and Shayna Keller will create studies in site specific choreography, dance film, and sculpture while in residence at Buckwheat this November. GROUND SERIES' interest in collaborative making, creative intervention, and time-based, land-based research will continue to drive the experimentation so generously supported by Buckwheat. GROUND SERIES will share their residency research in the Vilma Space and on the Buckwheat grounds on evening of November 16th.
